How to Keep a golden syrarian hamster happy and content?
I just brought home a little golden syrarian girl. First off, how to a pick her up and where should I pet her? I don’t know what type of treats goldens like (i tried giving her a carrot but she either didn’t like it of was too stressed). Second, how to get her to stop being all nervous and freaked out? amd Third, how to have a fun time with her and some games we could play? Thank you so much!! And also…name suggestions please? I am thinking about naming her Addison, Penelope, or Zoey but i’m not sure.
oh yeah: I only like types of names that humans would have.
It is best to let her settle into her home for at least a day before interacting with her. Each hamster likes different treats, so try a whole bunch – veggies, fruits, store bought, and small household things like dry/cooked noodles, boiled egg white, and oats. [Please look up everything before you feed it to her to make sure its safe!]
It is best to either lay your hand flat on the cage floor and allow her to climb on, or to scoop her up with both hands /slowly/. Talking to her quietly is a great way for her to get to know your voice. Stick a tissue in your sock for awhile and give that to her, it’ll help her get to know your scent. [She may shred it, but thats okay!] You may need to tame her if she bites/runs/squeals ect. when shes picked up. I can explain this later if you’d like.
Games -
A run in a ball [buy a clear one that is large enough for her so she will not arch her back, watch her at all times while in it!]
Simply exploring a new area.
Making a maze type thing for her, hiding a treat in it somewhere is fun ]
