Is the “Five Little Monkeys” a chant or a song?
I have to teach a song or chant to my class but I have to know if it is a chant or a song. I can’t tell. There is repetition and you do say it more than sing it, but I don’t know. I don’t want to get it wrong. Please help me figure this out. Thanks!
I don’t think you could call it a song because there is no set melody line.
I agree with the first answerer, that it’s a poem. However, as your assignment is for a chant or song, then let’s consider it a chant as it does seem to fit the definition:
A short, simple series of syllables or words that are sung on or intoned to the same note or a limited range of notes.
